The well-known model (28) has a very personal reason for deciding to go to Mount Carmel Hospital for her first baby with husband Brian Ormond — the Diary can reveal her grandfather was one of its top doctors.
The late Dr Karl Mullen, who was rugby legend and a renowned gynaecologist, passed away in 2009 — but he left an impressive legacy.
As well as earning 25 caps for his country, he also captained Ireland during their famous Triple Crown and Grand Slam winning campaign in 1948.
Now Pippa’s other half has explained how the private hospital where Dr Mullen spent 40 years of his life working was always her top choice when it came to maternity facilities as she knows she will be in safe hands.
She’s following in the footsteps of other celebrities mums, such as Yvonne Keating, Sinead O’Connor, Caroline Harrington and Kerry Katona.
“The reason she wanted to go there was because that’s where he was based for most of his life. He actually set a record for helping deliver the most number of babies as he worked there for so long,” said Brian. Pippa, who’s due in April, was out at the South Dublin hospital over the weekend as she helped launch its special baby care unit.
And her husband of a year said they were blessed by the fact that she’s been having a “model pregnancy”.
“We’re both absolutely thrilled, but you wouldn’t even know she was pregnant sometimes. She’s had no sickness and is hardly showing. It’s going brilliantly for her,” he continued.
Brian already has one child from a previous relationship, 12-year-old daughter Chloe, who he said was “so excited” about the prospect of welcoming in a baby brother or sister.
surprise
However, they decided not find out the sex of the baby when it comes to their next big ultrasound scan.
“I don’t think we will. We really want to wait as it’s good to keep things as a surprise. We’re both just delighted things are going so well,” he added.
They have also held off buying anything for the baby until later in the new year as they excitedly await their new tot’s arrival.
As well as being part of RTE’s National Lottery programme, Brian is also working hard building up the new business venture he set up with fellow TV presenter Laura Woods, namely Corporate Profiles.
He explained how they have recently taken on a throng of new clients as they continue building up the company, which he’s also juggling with presenting his own show on Sunshine Radio every Sunday.
