Play Safe In The Sun With La Roche-Posay This Summer

Hi everyone,

If you’ve been following me over the past few months you may have seen I’ve been taking part in La Roche-Posay’s ‘Save Your Skin’ campaign in partnership with the Irish Cancer Society. The campaign is all about calling on the public to follow the SunSmart Code and to raise awareness of skin cancer prevention through SunSmart behaviour.

This is a topic that’s really close to my heart as a mum of two, so I’m more than happy to be taking part. Staying safe in the sun is extremely important and not just during sunny spells and higher temperatures – it’s essential to be sun smart all year round, whatever the weather.

According to the National Cancer Registry of Ireland, there are 30 people diagnosed with skin cancer daily, a shocking statistic I’m sure you’ll agree, which is why we need to raise as much awareness as possible.

This summer, myself and the boys have been wearing the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Lotion SPF50+. I brought this with us on holidays to Portugal a few weeks ago and we’ve been applying it everyday at home too. When we were away I brought the pocket sized Anthelios lotion for kids – these are so handy to just pop in your bag when you’re on-the-go. It’s ideal for travelling as it’s just 30ml.

I also brought the Dermo-Pediatrics Baby Lotion SPF 50+, which is extremely water-resistant and not greasy whatsoever. The aerosol spray is also another handy one to apply – the cream comes out slightly whiter than the other products, which helps to ensure you don’t miss any spots. I apply it to the boys’ face and body.

I’m a big fan of the Anthelios range for the kids and myself. Not only does it offer a high SPF and UVA protection, everything in the range is specifically formulated for sensitive skin. I also really like the different forms available – from aerosol sprays to lotions and body milk – which means you can find the perfect product to suit you and your skin.

I’m very aware of the harmful effects sun can do to your skin so I always make an effort with the entire family to keep them safe. I also think incorporating sun care into a daily routine with my boys from an early age will help to instil sun safe behaviours that will eventually become second nature to them.

I always like to use SPF 30-50 with UVA protection on myself and the boys and apply it 20 minutes before going outside. It’s also important to top it up every two hours or so, especially if the kids are in and out of the pool. I never like to lie out in the sun for too long either as I know the damage that can be done to your skin – it’s really not worth it in the long run. It’s also important to note that UV rays are at their highest during the day between 11am-3pm.

The La Roche-Posay Anthelios range is available in pharmacies nationwide.

For every stickered Anthelios product, €1 will be donated to the Irish Cancer Society – an extremely worthy cause.

Stay safe in the sun everyone! 🙂
